BRICKHEAD
Independent project

The idea wasn't to make a brick look like a lamp. It was to see how much of the brick could remain when it became one.

BRICKHEAD is a collection of lighting objects I’m developing from an idea that began with a discarded refractory brick.
Refractory bricks are made to withstand high temperatures. I was interested in their rough textures, irregular surfaces, and solid proportions. I wanted to explore how those qualities could work in a light for an everyday living space.
What began as a single desk lamp gradually developed into a collection with different forms and uses.
The design
I kept the forms simple and solid, introducing softer light, adjustable mechanisms, and contrasting materials. Aluminium is used at the joints and connections, while beech wood appears in selected designs.
The collection includes adjustable desk lamps, cylindrical pendants, and a longer light with two openings. I developed them through 3D modelling, proportion studies, prototypes, and material exploration.
Much of the work went into how the light source sits inside each body and how the adjustable heads move. I developed the pivot and rotating knob alongside the body so the parts would fit and move together.
